Fifty / Fifty by Tamara von Werthern

In Fifty / Fifty, a daughter starts to question her identity when her father is diagnosed with a genetic illness that has a fifty percent chance of being passed on. Over a high stakes tea at the Ritz, she confronts her mother about her suspicions.

Fifty / Fifty was part of the Space Theatre's duologue festival, Two Fest. The setting at the table provided an exciting challenge to work on small, intricate gestures with the actors that read as dramaticc and meaningful to the audience. A guiding question in rehearsal was: 'Within the narrow frame of this playing space, how do we make the conflict between these two characters ping-pong between them, so that it feels really palpable to the audience without the actors leaving their chairs?' I enjoyed exploring the expressive powers of naturalistic movements through this play.

"Creates a delightfully awkward atmosphere as a mother-daughter relationship implodes...good pacing by director Jessica Bickel-Barlow delivers a satisfying pay-off" - Queerguru
